Retreats: Creating Mountaintop Experiences

When we were young youth directors in the late 1970's not too much curriculum was being written for Lutheran youth ministry events. So, we wrote our own. Over the years that has changed and today, curriculum is available on-line, in Christians bookstores, just about everywhere, but what if you have an idea that you want to develop yourself? 

We believe in the power of retreats. It's biblical after all, Jesus and His followers often retreated to the mountaintop to pray together, have conversation and dine in the peaceful serenity of God's creation. In today's culture, retreating is an even more radical departure for our youth! It's a chance to turn off cell phones, disconnect from computers and media and plug into building relationship with one another and with God.  

We created the Navigator Retreats handbook with these two premises in mind...that it is important to retreat and if you want to develop your own curriculum and do it faithfully, you can! The Retreats Handbook discusses why we feel it is important to retreat with your group and gives some tips on how to do it well. But, we go one step further and give you insight into how to develop your own curriculum using scripture, prayer and group-building as foundational elements.
